Alex Escrig rounded off a weekend of positive results at the Italian Moto2 Grand Prix, held at the iconic Mugello circuit, where he once again demonstrated his competitiveness and ability to mix it with the fastest riders in the category. The Puzol-based rider got off to a strong start to the Italian round, securing second place in Friday’s FP1. Hours later, in Free Practice, he maintained a high level of performance to finish sixth and secure his direct passage to Q2.
On Saturday, the Samurai focused on preparing for the race. Using FP2 to analyse the bike’s performance ahead of Sunday, Alex gathered key data on race-distance performance and finished the session with the eighth-fastest time. In qualifying, the Valencian rider once again demonstrated his single-lap pace and put in an excellent Q2 performance that secured him third place on the starting grid.
With everything in place to fight for the top spots, Escrig got off to a flying start in Sunday’s race and stayed with the leading group in the early stages. Furthermore, the pace shown by the Spanish rider confirmed the positive form he had displayed throughout the weekend, positioning him as one of the contenders for a top result at Mugello.
However, luck was not on his side. In the opening laps of the race, Alex suffered a crash that brought his race to a premature end and prevented him from converting the potential he had shown throughout the Grand Prix into points. Despite the setback, the weekend’s results bode very well for the rider from Puzol, who remains in twelfth place in the overall Moto2 World Championship standings and keeps his hopes of continuing to progress in the category alive.
