The Czech Republic Grand Prix, held at the historic Brno Circuit, saw Álex Escrig score another points-scoring finish, as he continues to gain experience and establish himself in the Moto2 World Championship. The rider from Puçol began the weekend with an 11th-place finish in FP1, before taking a significant step forward in Friday’s practice session, where he clocked the sixth-fastest time to secure direct entry into Q2. “It was a somewhat unusual weekend. I came here with different expectations compared to how things turned out. We struggled from Friday onwards, but we managed to find a way to be competitive,” explained Alex after the Czech round.
Saturday’s session focused on preparing for the race. The Samurai used FP2 to gain a better understanding of how the bike behaved at race pace, aware that its one-lap potential had already been demonstrated. He finished tenth in the session and, a few hours later, secured a solid ninth place in Q2 to guarantee a spot on the third row of the grid. “The positive thing is that we’re taking home some points, which is always important for the team. We’re finding solutions to situations we hadn’t considered before,” said the Valencian rider.
On Sunday, the race did not get off to the best start for Escrig, who lost several places in the opening laps and was forced to fight his way back from the rear of the field. However, the rider from Puçol did not give up and gradually made up ground until he crossed the finish line in 13th place, scoring more points for the championship. With this result, Alex also occupies 13th place in the overall Moto2 World Championship standings. “Now we need to keep moving in this direction because we’re learning and understanding a lot of things, and that’s very important. We’ll give it another go at Assen and keep working to improve even further,” concluded the rider, who already has his sights set on the next round of the calendar.
