Alex Escrig rounded off the German Grand Prix with another point to his name after finishing 15th in the race held at the Sachsenring Circuit. The rider from Puzol had a weekend that went from strength to strength, starting on Friday with 18th place in FP1 before taking a significant step forward in Free Practice, where he set the seventh-fastest time to qualify directly for Q2. “It was a positive weekend. We arrived at a track where I didn’t expect to be so competitive, but we managed to secure a place on the second row in qualifying, and that was a significant achievement,” Alex summed up at the end of the Grand Prix.
On Saturday, the Samurai used FP2 to focus on understanding the bike’s behaviour in race conditions, aware that his single-lap pace was already competitive. He finished the session with the eighth-fastest time and, a few hours later, confirmed his positive feelings in Q2 by securing a brilliant sixth place on the starting grid. “I felt good on the bike and the pace was competitive,” said the Spanish rider, who went into the race full of confidence after one of his best Saturdays of the season.
However, Sunday’s race was marred by a setback at the start. “It’s a shame about the start, which cost me a penalty – two Long Lap Penalties. It was an incident that inevitably compromised the race, but I’m still satisfied with the pace I managed to maintain; unfortunately, the final result doesn’t reflect our true potential.” Despite this, Escrig crossed the finish line in 15th place to pick up a valuable point, allowing him to remain 13th in the overall Moto2 World Championship standings.
With the German Grand Prix now behind them, Alex and his team are focusing all their efforts on the next round of the calendar. “We’re now looking ahead with confidence. I can’t wait to get to Silverstone, because I’m convinced we’ve got everything in place to have a good weekend,” concluded the driver from Puzol, determined to continue building on the progress shown over the weekend at the Sachsenring.
