Alex Escrig experienced one of the most special moments of his sporting career at Silverstone, securing his first podium finish in the Moto2 World Championship. The rider from Puzol went from strength to strength over the weekend and confirmed in the race the pace he had already shown during practice. On Friday, Alex finished 11th in FP1 and took a significant step forward in Free Practice, where he qualified in an impressive 4th place, thereby securing his direct passage to Q2. “I’m happy because we’ve finally brought home a result we deserve. We could have done even better today, because I felt strong all weekend and knew we had the pace to fight for the win,” the ‘Samurai’ acknowledged after the race.
On Saturday, Escrig maintained the competitive pace he had shown the previous day. In FP2, he finished with the 10th fastest time and then went on to tackle Q2, where, despite failing to complete a perfect lap, he managed to secure 8th on the starting grid. From that position, Alex went into Sunday’s race with a chance to fight for the leading positions and with the confidence of having demonstrated throughout the weekend that speed was on his side.
Right from the start, Alex made it clear that he wasn’t content with eighth place. The rider from Puzol staged a superb comeback, moving up the field at an increasingly competitive pace until he was right in the thick of the battle for the podium. Finally, the ‘samurai’ crossed the finish line in a spectacular third place, securing the first World Championship podium of his career and adding 16 points to the overall standings. “In the end, we’ve secured a podium finish that gives us confidence, not only for the future but also to keep believing in the work we’re doing. I’m very happy with the work carried out with the whole team over the weekend,” explained Alex.
This result is a major boost for Escrig, who currently sits 12th in the overall standings and heads into the decisive stage of the season with renewed motivation. Silverstone leaves behind an unforgettable memory and, above all, confirmation that the hard work is paying off. “Right now, we’re on top. All that’s missing now is the win.
